'Art & Faith'
event with Graham Fish (16th April 2011)
This event,
hosted by Denis King, inspired everyone with even the slightest
inkling of artistic talent! We watched a video of Graham Fish at
his workshop interviewed by
Denis followed by a fascinating discourse on
'the descent' (a series of pictures depicting Christ being taken
off the Cross). We also want to thank the Malborough Art
Club for their impressive display on the night. You can view Graham Fish's video here;
February Feast
2011 (17th February)
The February Feast was a
real treat for everyone that came! We even had a few rays of
sunlight as we watched the waves crashing on the rocks below.
Old and new friends came along including friends from the Parish
Church. Overall we were spoiled rotten by the Cottage Hotel!
Junior church
(Oct 2010)
As our Sunday School has
been growing up, so has their needs. We now hold a
separate class for inquisitive 11+ juniors who are facing new
challenges in life such as peer pressure at school, adolescence,
how to deal with forgiveness, bullying, prayer and so much more!
As well as teaching what the Bible says, there are practical
exercises, questions and time for sharing.
Farewell Les ...
Leslie Lapthorn,
passed away on the 23rd September at St.Luke’s Hospice.
There are so many things we can remember Les for;
whether it was his salute at the door or a friendly
“Ello Mate!” and of course “I’m ticking over” when asked
how he was.
Along with his
friendship, steadfast faithfulness and simple trust in
God, Les, like David, was one of those that made this
church what it is and I know that we shall dearly miss
him. Please uphold Doreen, Jean and Shirley in your
prayers.
Tribute to a dear brother, David Discombe ...
On the 14th June,
David Discombe, passed away
to be with his Lord. He leaves behind his wife Peggy (one of our deacons), and his children Della, Steven and
Anne.
David
was totally faithful and committed to the fellowship
having looked after the chapel and its grounds for many
years. However, it has to be noted that God had
everything in hand when only 2 hours after David left,
just a few wards away in the same hospital, baby David
Skillman was born, son of Rev Tim & Pam Skillman. Not
only that, but up until the birth of baby David, his
parents had no idea why they should name their child
'David'. God truly shows an amazing grace through His
divine timing and honour for such a precious man of God.
We will miss him.
1930's Evening
- a great success!
On the 15th May we organised a 1930's evening with All Saints
Parish Church and the Malborough History group. Seventy
plus people from the village came to experience a 1930's menu, a
video and village quiz!
The video featured Marjorie
Hallworth, Les & Doreen Lapthorn, Pauline Battin, Doris Wood,
Joyce Parsons, Ron Brendall and John Cole, superbly interviewed
by Denis King. There are many photographs and superimposed video
clips that bring the 1930's to life. Everything from Snow
storms, shipwrecks, politics, church life and even elephants are
remembered! If you would like a copy of the video, please
email us and we can
send you a copy for £6.50 (boxed and printed).
Below are some photo's from
the evening:

Programmes for 2011
Monthly fellowship meal
and devotion
There are a number of
members and older folk who find it very difficult to get out and
meet. Each month we aim to provide a meal at the Chapel and
transport for those who are housebound. Many folk have
been turning up and thoroughly enjoy the time of fellowship.
Fortnightly Home Study &
Fellowship
Every other week we will
meet at someone's house for Bible study and fellowship in the
evening. This will be coordinated to allow families to attend a
meeting near (or at) their home. To find out when and where our
next meetings take place, please phone Rev Tim on 01548 560168.
Prayer & Worship Evening
On the last Sunday evening
of every month we aim to join together for prayer and worship.
This may include video worship, live worship and testimonies.
It's a time to rest and be ministered to. Many people from
several churches have attended this meeting enjoying live
worship from worship teams such as 'Chosen' (St.Jude's,
Tavistock) and our own talented Sterry family.
Thursday Prayer
The regular Thursday prayer
meeting takes place at 2.30pm, every Thursday, for
around half an hour.
